Meet The Staff

Tom Olson is proud to be starting his second year as our PGA Head Golf Professional.

Tom was raised in Manhattan, IL, a southwest suburb of Chicago. He attended Lincoln Way Community High School and went on to Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI where he completed the Professional Golf Management program and earned his BS in Business Administration in 1989.

His professional experience includes time at The Trophy Club in Roanoke, TX and St. Andrews Country Club in West Chicago, IL as an Assistant Golf Professional. He then moved to the Oshkosh Country Club to become the Head Golf Professional.

He also established the Tom Olson Golf Academy to pursue his love of teaching the game. Based in the Fox Valley, Tom gave over 1400 lessons per year where he coached golfers of all ages and abilities. This also gave him the opportunity to become a certified club fitter with a wide variety of skill levels.

Tom is excited for another exciting season at Mascoutin!

My name is Grant Miller, I attended Berlin High School and graduated in 2019. During my high school years I played basketball year-round and soccer in the fall. I started my business management studies in the fall of 2019 at Concordia University Wisconsin and played on the Men’s Basketball Team. I transferred to UW-Oshkosh in the fall of 2021 and studied business management for a semester. I am now in the PGA Associated Program and am the Assistant Golf Professional here at Mascoutin Golf Club.

Jason Bell is our Head Golf Course Superintendent. The son of a Golf Course Superintendent, Jason started working on the crew at North Shore Country Club in Menasha when he was 13.

He went on to attend and graduate from Michigan State University’s Turfgrass Management Program in 2001. While there he interned at Boulder Country Club.

His work experience includes time as an assistant at Peninsula State Park Golf Course and Milwaukee Country Club. In 2005 he took on the challenge of becoming a Head Superintendent at Fox Lake Country Club and then moved to Beaver Dam Country Club.

Jason is married and has 2 children, Lexi and Tyler. He loves working outdoors and his favorite part of his job is that there’s something new everyday. He feels that grass is predictable; he knows how it reacts to stress and how it grows. People, golfers and workers included, are the things that are unknown.

The number one thing golfers can do to help the golf course is to fix ball marks. When golfers hit a good shot into a green, they should be proud to find the pitch mark they left and repair it. It’s a sign of a good player.

Todd DeRuyter is Mascoutin’s Business Administrator. He’s in charge of payroll, accounts payable and receivable, communications and general oversight of the business.

Todd was born in Waupun, Wisconsin and moved to Berlin when he was 5 years old. He graduated from Berlin High School and Marquette University with a degree in Business and Marketing. He spent most of his life running a painting and wood finishing business in Berlin. After selling the business in 2018, he was approached by the Board to take over his current duties.

Married to Joni for over 25 years and proud father of 2 boys, Lucas and Tim, Todd has been a member at Mascoutin for most of his life. He grew up playing junior golf at the old 9 holer west of Berlin and played the new 18 hole course the first day it was open.

2022 marks my third year working part time in the Pro Shop. I retired from my “real” job in 2017 after spending 32 years in the wholesale millwork and building materials business. I have been a member at Mascoutin Golf Club since 2004.

My name is Sydney Steinmetz and I am from Oshkosh, WI. I graduated in May 2022 from the University of St. Thomas with degrees in Accounting and Finance, while competing on the women's golf team. I've been working at Mascoutin since I was 16 years old. All the people at Mascoutin are a pleasure to work with and have become like a second family to me. I enjoy the variety of responsibilities and helping with the junior golf programs.
